SS CAP EAGLE, unmarked and MAGNETIC!!!!
Hi collectors,
I got that one from a good source here in Germany.
I first thought, it is an unmarked zink one, but I layed it beside a magnet and it glided to it.
This example is complete made from steel, from very thin material and light (only 5 gr). It has no rust outside (painted?) and some small rust inside.
It is miles away from every copy I saw, and I beleive it is very difficuilty to make a piece from steel with that thin skin. So for me it is for shure a very rare period item, maybe very late produced parallel or after the zink ones.
Did someone out there saw(heared about this variant before? My (limited) research at the web brought nothing out.
Someone out there with facts?
THANKS

Re: SS CAP EAGLE, unmarked and MAGNETIC!!!!
Welcome to the SS forum,
the late war type eagle was not marked often, but a magnetic Zinc eagle is very strange...
I am not in "peace" with your eagle, but I am not a great insignia cap collector, I collect the cap and tunic
I wait other opinion, c'mon guys !
Sebastien.

One of these (perhaps the same one) cropped up on WAF some time ago ... they are very nicely detailed and not crude fakes. I believe the jury was still out BUT to me it makes no sense back in a time where steel was in short supply to start making insignia out of it ??

Hello Ian,
nice to meet you here
It is the same eagle, and it is mine. And I´m still sure, it is a good one, it came from a very good source here in Germany.
IMO this one was made on the same die as the Assmann zink ones, maybe they had some iron sheet and tried to work with them, or they used this material as an attempt, who knows.
Cheers
Udo
